How to Fix Out of Memory Errors Printing Deed / Plat Images
These instructions assume you have downloaded and installed the latest java runtime. If you have not, it is available here under the "Popular Downloads" section to the right on the screen. Download and install this and then continue below. Also ensure you do not have multiple versions of this runtime installed. You can do this by clicking Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add / Remove Programs and seeing how many instances of the java runtime are listed.
The "Out of Memory" error when printing deed / plat images is caused by a lack of heap memory provided to the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). These instructions will lead you through increasing the heap size to enable you to print bigger images and maps from the Register of Deeds website. To fix the problem:
Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Double click the Java Plug-In or Java icon (looks like a coffee cup)
Click the Advanced tab (Java Tab in newest version)
On the Advanced / Java tab select the JRE version you have installed rather than the "Use Java Plug-In Default" selection. If you do not do this the value you enter may not be used at all. NOTE: If you have the newest version the click the Java tab and then the small "View" button. The Java Runtime Parameters box will be found on the small screen that is displayed. You have to double-click this box to enter the below value.
In the Java Runtime Parameters box enter "-Xmx256M".
Click Ok / Apply and then close the window.
Once you close and re-start the internet browser, you are now ready to print maps / deed pages.
